18 year-old Nigerian-Scottish singer-songwriter Tayo Sound just released his highly anticipated debut EP ‘Runaway’. Already, he has reached over 7 million streams across all platforms and worked with some of the best producers in the industry. This EP is a great introduction to Tayo Sound’s smooth indie-pop sound, with effortlessly cool rhythm and sharp lyricism. Raised in The EP features many of the songs that initially put Tayo Sound on the map such as ‘Cold Feet’, ‘Gone’, and ‘Someone New’. The material subject matter predominantly covers the feelings he experienced from a recent breakup, he stated, “I remember when I was younger, I said ‘I’m never going to write about love, I don’t want to do that.’ But then that happens and it’s all you can think about. The whole record is about first relationships and the emotions that everyone goes through whether they’re good or bad.”

Right now, many people are experiencing the kind of relationship Tayo is talking about, with the pandemic forcing couples into closer quarters than ever before. On this EP, the singer/songwriter delves into those tough conversations that come up in relationships while maintaining a sunny tone. The laid-back aesthetic of the record allows us to see these tough emotions as an inevitable part of relationships, that while painful, are able to provide us with tremendous insights into others and ourselves.

We’re so excited to hear the rest of what Tayo has to offer in 2021, but in the meantime, we wanted to get to know the rising artist. He sat down with B-Sides host Pete Mar to talk about being raised on church music, meeting Sam Smith and more.
