LA girl band HAIM began their indie pop adventure back in 2006. The band consists of the Haim sisters — Este, Danielle, and Alana. The girls recently released their debut album Days Are Gone this past month. Originally inspired by 1970s classic rock and growing up in a family band with their parents; the band matured and decided to incorporate pop and R&B into their music. The album reflects this music genre but with a collaboration of eighties new wave pop and nineties pop rock as well. It covers different life issues including relationships, heard in songs: “If I Could Change Your Mind” and “My Song 5” and staying strong during hard times, heard in “Falling,” — all combined into a girl power type attitude and sung in the style similar to that of a female Vampire Weekend. Overall the album is catchy and meaningful, it does not sound shallow like mainstream pop and it is easy to connect to the music. Instrumentation is excellent with the combination of the pop beats, guitar, and keyboard. If you are a fan of Lana Del Rey or bands like Girls, then check out HAIM. Days Are Gone is currently available for streaming on Spotify and iTunes.
