For some it may be shocking to learn that Lorde aka Ella Yelich-O’ Connor is a 16 year old who hails from New Zealand and already has the voice of a singer beyond her years. The young artist has just released her debut album Pure Heroine this past week! Three of her singles off of the album including “Royals,” “Tennis Court,” and “Team” have already been certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album is phenomenal in every aspect, including instrumentation, beat mixes, and of course Lorde’s strong and overpowering voice. The album focuses on different issues going on in the singer’s life, mainly that of not relating to the rich and famous lifestyle. We hear this especially in songs “Royal” and “White Teeth Teens,” with lyrics such as ” I’ll let you in on something big, I am not a white teeth teen I tried to join but never did, the way they are, the way they seem something else, it’s in the blood, their molars blinking like the lights, in the underpass where we all sit and do nothing and love it.” The album is inspiring especially to teenagers by directing them and influencing that it is not cool to imitate or inspire to be like popular rich and partying celebs. Overall the album is excellent in meaning and musical style, and the name Pure Heroine is a perfect fit! Pure Heroine is now available for streaming on iTunes and Spotify.
