Whether you are starting out at your first full-time job or interning for the summer, you still want to make an impression without losing your personal flair. And entering the workplace, your budget won’t expand the way you would like your wardrobe to.Mixing & matching is one of the best ways to take the pieces you already have in your closet and make it look like you have something new to wear every day. I’ve found investing in a pair of dark jeans, a lightweight blazer, a striped/patterned dress and a nicer blouse will take your workplace fashion a long way.

Dark-washed denim jeans, like these cropped BDG ones from Urban Outfitters, can create a polished, Audrey Hepburn look with this peach-colored blouse, ballet flats and a top knot. Topped with a leather jacket, it’s easy to transition this same look to night time. If you do have a meeting during the day, take that same blouse tucked into a skirt with leather trim details, and a statement necklace. Adding edgier accessories can reflect your personality without coming off as over-the-top.

Zara has an inexpensive, jersey blazer in multiple colors to swap out with either jeans and a patterned top or over a striped dress. Stripes have become a staple in the past few years and I would recommend the orange or green blazer over this Forever 21 striped dress with a nice pair of ankle boots. Take this same blazer out to a concert during the week with black, leather pants and a graphic tee like Top Shop’s.

It’s easy to feel trapped within the workplace dress code but it’s easier to take what you already have in your closet and make it work for you. Starting a new job is exciting and showing your confidence through your style will guarantee you stand out.
