VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Aurora Empathizes With “The Grinch”, Reflects On What She Wants Her Legacy To Be

A letter which was a call to arms in the face of global warming helped to inspire the fourth studio album from Aurora, ‘What Happened To The Heart?’. The Norwegian artist encountered the letter in 2022, which was titled, ‘We Are the Earth’. It inspired her to delve into multiple aspects of how Western culture lost touch with the deeper purpose of the heart.

The songs on the album examine the loss of spiritual connection in modern society, underscoring the importance of vulnerability and advocating for reunifying the heart with politic and personal growth. While songs like “Some Type of Skin,” take listeners on a journey from weakness to strength, from self-destruction to self-healing, others like “Starvation” embody the album’s concept. “’Starvation’ touches on the very heart of the album. The root of the problem the world is in. Our souls are starving, and therefore I think it’s hard for people to truly connect with the world. Our food makes us sick. The news makes us worried, but passive. Our work makes us uninspired by life. We bully strangers on the internet. And we connect to other humans mostly through that very same medium. We can see people getting killed on our phones while we go on about our day. Something is seriously wrong.”

Aurora spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the preciousness of life and community, what she wants her legacy to be, her latest album ‘What Happened To The Heart?’ and more.
