After making a huge splash going viral on TikTok with her song “The King” in 2020 and subsequently releasing three EPs, the debut album ‘Escaper’ from Sarah Kinsley dropped on September 6th to much anticipation. The release of the twelve track project is described as a journey towards finding one’s self, Kinsley explained. “It is a story dedicated to the spiral of how we use alternate realms and faraway places to escape grief, to not let pain find us. Portals to other places allow us to become anything, anyone. This album is the symbol for choosing the real and the imaginary—returning to a world of flaws and emotion as a means of moving forward. Escaper is my attempt to offer the only way I know how to make sense of my life in its smallness and great entirety—through music.”

The album features grandiose sonics and immediacy, which reflects the influences of her classical music upbringing and pop-sensibilities. “I’m just such a sucker for massive, grand songs,” she stated. “I think it’s the classical musician in me who loves symphonies and the magnum opus effect.” The New York-based artist has garnered much attention ever since going viral with “The King” while still a student at Columbia University, performing at multiple sold-out shows as well as past festivals including Governor’s Ball and Lollapalooza. She’ll be headed out on the European leg of her current tour in November.
