“Watchers” taps into the 24/7 nature of humans being constantly monitored in the current day and age, “in 2024 we’re under constant surveillance. The average person used to work 9-to-5, but it’s 24/7 now—there’s no clocking out.” Jagwar Twin stated, “with our phones and social media, we’re ‘on the clock’ from the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed.” The song has a familiar feel to it as it’s an interpolation of Rockwell’s classic hit “Somebody’s Watching Me,” which is fitting for the song, “it’s about this creeping feeling of being seen from all angles, not knowing whether you’re living your life or performing it… ‘The Watchers’ taps into that blend of fascination, intoxication, and paranoia…”, Jagwar Twin shared.
The year has been one of lots of activity for Jagwar Twin (born Brandon Roy Wronski), who toured with Thirty Seconds to Mars on the European leg of their tour while also having major success with the song “Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa),” which landed at #24 on Billboard’s Hot Alternative and spent 11 weeks at Top 40 US Pop Radio. The song samples the original song from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and has garnered over 135 million streams and 6.5 billion views on YouTube Shorts.
Jagwar Twin speaks with B-Sides host Pete Mar about the gratefulness he feels for the recent success of his releases like “Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa)”, “Happy Face” and others, how he’s been able to maneuver through the music industry through trends and technological advances to create music and more.
