The highly anticipated new album by The Greeting Committee ‘Everyone’s Gone and I Know I’m The Cause’ was released in June and sees the band entering a new chapter in their career. With lineup changes and creative redirection, the album is filled with punchy pop tracks and anthems including the singles “popmoneyhits,” “How It Goes,” and “Cyclical.” Lead singer and ongwriter Addie Sartino shared, “when I was younger writing lyrics, one of my bigger influences at the time was Vampire Weekend and I still adore Vampire Weekend. I still think Ezra Koenig is such a phenomenal lyricist but indie music I feel back then, when I was growing up was like, here’s this simple concept, how convoluted and descriptive and distant can you make it. How can you dress up something that’s a simple idea, as something that seems more than it is.” Sartino stated, “getting to this record, it was how can I say the simple things in the simple way and still resonate with it, and feel like it’s impactful. So that was a nice challenge that I got to give myself.” The album also represents a shift in the band’s lineup as founding members Sartino and Pierce Turcotte are joined by longtime member Noah Spencer and newcomer Micah Ritchie. The change serves as an overarching theme for the record – despite knowing a change is being made for the greater good, the process can still be debilitating. The shared that the project strives to revel in the beauty and the benefit that comes with loss. “I lived in fear for so long, I grew up inside of it,” Sartino stated. “I was afraid if I didn’t hold tightly enough, if I didn’t struggle enough, if I didn’t sacrifice enough that I wouldn’t be enough. And if I couldn’t be enough then how could I ever deserve this? But I promise you, the things and the people that are meant for you will always believe you are enough.”
