San Francisco native, Wisp, released her debut EP Pandora in April to much anticipation and critical acclaim. Of the six-track EP, Wisp shared, “‘Pandora is about the vulnerability and intensity of romantic relationships. The songs range from topics like mistaking infatuation for love, to the feeling of true love. I wanted the EP to showcase the complexity of what we all hope to find, even if its finding ourselves first.” Born Natalie Lu, Wisp has garnered much attention after going viral with the song “Your Face”, which has amassed tens of millions of streams and built up a cult fanbase. Inspired by the likes of Whirr and Deftones, Wisp grew up with a mixture of sounds playing throughout her upbringing ranging from The Gorillaz from her father and Korean indie music from her mother. Wisp brought out a notable crowd during her debut at her hometown festival of Outside Lands and noted that new music is already in the works. “Right now I’m working on an album and I’m just trying to incorporate more elements of pop or electronic music into my music.”
Wisp spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing at Outside Lands 2024, inspirations from Deftones, upcoming new music and more.
