Cults returned to San Francisco Thursday August 15th to perform at Bimbo’s 365 in support of their latest album, ‘To the Ghosts’ that dropped in July. The intimate setting of such an iconic venue like Bimbo’s 365 provided the perfect setting for the band’s immersive experience that was sparsely lit at times in favor of various colorful visuals projected onto band as they performed. With a packed house filled with varying generations of fans, the New York City duo was accompanied by additional musicians on drums and bass as they performed songs from the new album like “Crybaby” and “Left My Keys,” as well as fan favorites from their earlier days like “TV Dream” and “Monolithic”. As much as their breakthrough “Go Outside”, which was included in a medley of their other songs “Bumper,” “Never Saw The Point,” and “Abducted,” elicited cheers and cellphones recording the moment, it was the viral hits towards the end of the show of “Gilded Lily” and “Always Forever” that brought the audience to the next level, singing and swaying along to lead singer Madeline Follin’s delicate vocals. The show was especially memorable for San Francisco, as Follin noted the ties that she and bandmate Brian Obvliion have, referencing their time living in the area and going to school nearby. She mentioned how much the area means to them and noted their affinity for San Francisco saying a couple of times, “remember, we love you more than any one else.” Their performance was more than demonstrative of those feelings that were reciprocated many times over.
