Buzzing Nashville alternative band Jive Talk was one of the standout sets at Bonnaroo this year due to their unique and energetic stage presence and catchy tunes. Their latest single “Sally” recently dropped and features airy guitar transmissions, breathy vocals and a chantable chorus. The five-piece has garnered much attention from their music that’s laden with 80s new-wave influences with a futuristic twist. Tapping into their influences ranging from Arcade Fire, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, MGMT and others, the band noted the commonalities of those bands- “they combine elements that might not feel like they go together, which we’re all about putting something that doesn’t fit right but you kind of force it in there and somehow it comes out into a product that we’re proud of,” continuing, they explained how that translated to their live performances, “that’s how we met. We went to school for theater and that’s has always been a part of our live set, how can we make this act one, the climax, just treating it like a production and in that way telling a story with a little bit of choreography.” Jive Talk continues to embody their penchant for exploring new sonics and inspiration as they plan to release more new music that pushes further into shoegaze and exciting new sounds.
Jive Talk spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing at Bonnaroo 2024, what the local non-country music scene is like in their home base of Nashville, TN and more.
