After nearly a year since releasing new music, Huddy returned on May 15th with the release of his EP ‘Love Bites’. Coinciding with his 22nd birthday, the 4-track EP showcases varied sonics from the disco-laden title track, to pop-influenced sounds in “Mugshot”, while maintaining his penchant for guitar-driven rock. The EP explores love and heartbreak as Huddy, born Chase Hudson, comes of age. The subject matter of the songs are inspired by his real-life relationship from their first meeting to settling in and going for the ride. “The title ‘Love Bites’ is a double entendre: it not only alludes to a hickey, but it also means that love can bite you in the ass if you let it,” Huddy stated on the inspiration behind his latest project. He continued- “Love can be this intense thing where you feel so much for each other to the point of insanity. This EP is the saga of my love with my girlfriend Chiara, told through four distinct sonic journeys. It’s a raw and honest portrayal of our journey, from our first encounter to the wild, passionate love we share today.” The last few years has seen Huddy grow and change from his instant success from going viral on TikTok in 2020 and launching his music career in 2021 with huge songs like “21st Century Vampire,” “The Eulogy of You and Me,” and “America’s Sweetheart”. The success was fast and at times unmanageable as Huddy explained, “I was being a little bit of a bad boy where I was trying to be rebellious, waking up 2 p.m., staying out late and it’s not for me.” He shared, “I also went through a year where I lost a few friends of mine and that really affected me and I didn’t know how to come to terms with it. I lost my grandpa when I was on tour, I lost one of my best friends and then two months before that one of my first friends died a week after I got a tattoo with him…. it was really dark for me.” The period away from music and healing helped Huddy discover a focus and passion for focusing on his career while maintaining healthy relationships. New music is planned while he will make his debut at Lollapalooza in Chicago in August.
Huddy spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about turning 22, the lessons he’s learned from the ups and downs of achieving a high profile in music, and more.
