girl in red completed her current North American tour on June 2nd at the Warfield in San Francisco, CA with a spectacular show. It was the second show in the Bay Area, as she had performed the night before in nearby Oakland, but based on the energy and enthusiasm from girl in red and her band, it might as well have been the first show.
Opening with “DOING IT AGAIN BABY”, the sold-out crowd loudly welcomed the Norwegian artist to the stage. The shrieks and singalongs continued as “bad idea!” and “girls” followed up as the stage was flooded in red lighting. girl in red was energetic, running across the stage at times while also stationary at the center mic stand while playing guitar. At one point during the set, she took to the piano during a couple of ballads including “midnight love”, but the energy picked back up as the night ended with “You Need Me Now?” and the iconic “i wanna be your girlfriend”.
The night opened with The Beaches, who got the crowd more than warmed up. The Canadian band was solid, playing a set filled with highlights from their latest album ‘Blame My Ex’ that’s catapulted the band’s profile. Songs like “Cigarette” and “Shower Beer” was enhanced by the venue’s acoustics, as was their breakout hit, “Blame Brett”.
