It has already been a banner year for emerging artist, Dasha. After making the pivot from making pop music to releasing her very first country album, titled ‘What Happens, Now?’, the San Luis Obispo, CA native is finding herself performing at major music festivals throughout the rest of the year. Creating the enormously viral line dance to her song “Austin”, Dasha has skyrocketed onto the country music scene with nearly 70M views of the dance on TikTok, over 150M streams of the song and shows no signs of stopping. The singer/songwriter has always in influence by country music, as she was introduced to the genre at a very young age, noting that listening to the debut album by Taylor Swift as a life moment, and realizing her dream to become a musician herself. “There’s something about the songwriting that i think inspired me and so many other songwriters in my generation,” Dasha shared with us back in 2021, “there’s something so honest and real and relatable about it and I realized I wanted to do that.” Riding high on the newfound attention, Dasha will be releasing a deluxe version of ‘What Happens, Now?’ that will contain new music, as well as making appearances at Hangout Festival, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and other major music festivals this year.
Dasha spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing for the first time at Stagecoach, how the event was a full-circle moment for her as it relates to “Austin”, dealing with the higher profile and more.
