LA-based pop singer-songwriter Chloe George recently rose to TikTok fame due to her debut solo release “ghost town (voice memo),” on which she slows Kanye West’s “Ghost Town” into a bewitching soft ballad. With a background in writing for well-known artists such as Dua Lipa, Normani, BlackPink, Hayley Kiyoko and more, George’s power of pure, emotive lyricism shines on her latest EP, A Cheetah Hunting In Slow Motion under FADER Label. On the lead single “My Nature”, George implements slight R&B elements into her deep, rhythmic lyricism. Speaking on her upbringing, George mentions how natural music felt as her mother was a music teacher, and she along with her older siblings were involved in musical theater: “It was so easy to do. […] [Music] was just always around and I feel really lucky. There was never a point where it was like ‘Oh, I don’t know how I can do this.’ I felt I had the resources which is amazing.” George also talks about her female influences such as Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, who are known for their powerful, emotive voices. She currently nears the end of her role as supporting act for Arlo Park’s North American tour.
Chloe George spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about her legendary childhood muses Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, the experiences that lead to her EP, and more.
