Celebrating his twenty-first birthday the night before, Stephen Sanchez made it up to the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA November 4th, just a stones-throw away from his native Sacramento. The sold-out crowd, who had waited for hours in line to get into the venue, were passionate and energetic with many dressed in their finest 50s/60s throwback outfits. With signs seen scattered throughout the crowd professing their admiration for Sanchez, the audience was defeaning once he emerged from the darkness as a silhouette and performed the opening song, “Something About Her”. The cheers were even louder when the stage was fully lit and “Evangeline” started right after. With a set that felt like a step back into time, Sanchez even included covers from the era with “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison and “Unchained Melody” by Hy Zaret & Alex North.
