Poolside, the recording project of producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise, has emerged as a staple in the festival music scene with their unique blend of electronic, indie, and pop sounds. Poolside has been quite active this year, having performed at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Outside Lands, as well as supporting Carly Rae Jepsen in NYC, the band is on a three-week tour of the South. Their live performances feature Jeffrey Paradise on guitar, vocals, and synths, alongside a talented ensemble of musicians including Vito Roccoforte on drums, Brijean Murphy on percussion and vocals, Mattie Safer on bass and vocals, Grant Zubritsky on keys and vocals, Casey Butler on saxophone, lap steel, percussion, and vocals, and Alton San Giovanni on guitar and vocals. Their new single “Moonlight” just dropped and was written with Cut Copy’s Ben Browning. “We wrote this song in Ben Browning’s garage on a card table with a pretty sketchy setup,” describes Poolside. “Then we brought it back to our studio in Malibu and worked on it some more. We used this cool pedal called the Strymon Deco to give the synths an old school vibe. This paired with modern production led to a great song. I was pretty nervous to put my voice on the track, but I recorded it with Lewis Pesacov and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It was a good learning experience to let someone else guide me vocally instead of getting stuck in my own head. Overall, I’m super proud of this song!” The song will appear on his upcoming album ‘Blame It All On Love’ that drops on October 20th.
B-Sides caught up with Poolside at Austin City Limits to talk about performing at the festival, the evolution from being a DJ and producer during the indie sleaze movement in the 2000s to producing and creating music and more.
