Jane Leo is an exciting and emerging musical artist that represents a unique fusion of two talents, Jane Ellen Bryant and Daniel Leopold.
Their musical journey takes inspiration from a broad, international sound, making it distinct from the traditional Texan roots often associated with Austin, their home base. A relatively new project born right before the pandemic between the Bryant, who had her own solo career for a number of years, and Leopid, who was in Leopold and his Fiction. The result is a combination of influences ranging from The Cars and Iggy Pop to David Bowie, Devo and Nancy Sinatra. Soncially, Leopold shared that the core of Jane Leo draws from Detroit’s musical legacy of garage rock combined with lo-fi electronic. Their latest single “Wow” is an electronic and in-your-face track that has elements of 2000s indie sleaze with a modern twist. The song is a taste of the band’s upcoming sophomore album, due out next year.
Jane Leo spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar at Austin City Limits to talk about performing at the festival, how they found their sound, upcoming new music and more.
