British singer and songwriter Becky Hill just dropped her new single “Disconnect” over the summer, which features a collaboration with fellow British electronic artists Chase & Status. The song is highlighted by the duo’s signature drum-and-bass sound, which Hill was eager to feature on her music, “a decade on from ‘Afterglow’ and I honestly didn’t think that I’d be able to do it again, but I have never been more excited about a drum ‘n’ bass tune like I am about ‘Disconnect,’” Hill shared, “It’s a true dance floor record that tows the line between the rave and the radio, and to be working with the likes of Chase & Status, who I have dreamed of working with since I was a teenager, is a real moment for me. It’s been going off at festivals over the last few months and I can’t wait for everyone to have it for themselves. I’m so proud of this one.” A two-time Brit Award winner, Hill has been selling out shows on her recent headliner U.S. tour, which is fresh on the heels of drawing much attention from going viral for her song “Remember” recently on TikTok. Speaking on the attention the song drew, Hill reflected on how she’s able to handle the added spotlight after being in the music industry for nearly ten years- “I think now is there’s a time where I’m a lot more confident with who I am and it’s really nice to see instead of my impostor syndrome kicking in, and being like ‘oh well it went viral on Tik Tok but it was the sped up version’, like who cares what version it was! It was my voice, it’s my song, I wrote it and I’m very very proud of it. It’s so lovely to see people using that that song to to soundtrack their lives and their videos.” Hill plans to drop more new music a new album in 2024.
Becky Hill spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar about performing at this year’s Austin City Limits, what motivates her drive for success in America and more.
