Renee Rapp brought her ‘Snow Hard Feelings Tour’ to Oakland, CA for two massive shows at the Fox Theater. B-Sides covered the show on October 3rd, a date that was a fortuitous one as it’s the date referenced as ‘Mean Girls Day’, and Rapp’s connection having starred as Regina George in the Broadway musical ‘Mean Girls’. Fans were out in full force with homemade signs and singing along right from the start of Rapp’s set and continued throughout the night. The stage set was decked out with rock-like formations and flowers and varying visuals behind as Rapp was quite active, performing in nearly every part of the set.
The set was broken out amongst various seasons starting from spring and ending with winter as the visuals changed to match the tone of the music. Starting off with “Talk Too Much”, Rapp had the audience immediately in her control and having them scream-sing along, which got louder as she got into “Poison Poison”. Rapp was engaging and charismatic as she took time to interact with the crowd early on, noting their signs and speaking to various fans. The ‘Summer’ set was highlighted by “Pretty Girls” and “Tummy Hurts” which opener Towa Bird made a guest appearance to perform with Rapp. Rapp’s vocals continued to be strong in “Fall” with “I Hate Boston,” “So What Now” and “Too Well” but it was the “Winter” portion where Rapp’s vocals really hit its peak, especially when she performed with the second opener Alexander 23 on “I Wish”. Ending with a quick costume change into a white jumper and emerging with virtual wings on a screen behind her, Rapp performed a moving version of “Snow Angel” that left fans more than satisfied and whole after seeing the rising superstar.
