VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Maris Says Bleachers ‘Gone Now’ Is Her Comfort Album, Cites Lorde and Amy Winehouse as Influences

Singer/songwriter MARIS has been on a steady growth trajectory, especially since the release of her first single, “Heavenly Bodies” late 2022. The song is about being in a relationship that eventually turns toxic and the first discovery of that. Using a meteor as a metaphor, the music video fo “Heavenly Bodies” ties into the videos for the songs “Crashland” and “False Idol” as Maris describes, “I go into the ocean and then I come out with this meteor that fell from the sky, that pulled me out of bed to go get it. In “Crashland” I can destroy that because I’m free from this.” Hailing from Missoula, Montana, MARIS grew up with a wide range of influences that includes Bleachers, Amy Winehouse, and Lorde. MARIS recently wrapped up a tour opening for Anna the North and is finishing up material for her upcoming debut EP.

Maris speaks with B-Sides host Pete Mar about her musical journey growing up in Montana, the influence Bleachers, Lorde and Amy Winehouse has on her music, the multi-verse theory and more.
