Maisie Peters has spent the most of 2022 on the road performing songs from her debut album ‘You Signed Up For This’ that was released last year and has seen her profile grow over the course of that time. Due to the pandemic, the English singer/songwriter had to wait until this past spring to tour the U.S. and saw nearly every single show sell out. After spending the majority of the summer opening for Ed Sheeran throughout Europe, Peters returned to the U.S. for a five-show run in select cities at much larger venues than earlier this year. Peters performed at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA to an enthusiastic sold-out crowd who knew every single word to every song by heart. The setlist included a handful of the new songs she released throughout the year, kicking off the show with the newest one, “Rockstar”. As the show started off with a bang, fans sang along and fist-pumped throughout the upbeat song. Followed up with “Worst of You”, one of her earliest releases from 2017, the crowd was just enthralled as they swayed and sang. The set dug into the standouts from the debut with fav favorites “Brooklyn”, “Villian” and the title track from the album. Introduced as a medley of songs, Peters slowed things down in the middle of the set to go acoustic and per form some of her slower material including “Glowing Review”, “Volcano and “Good Enough”, the latter one of the more recent one-off singles she released this year. Ending with her cover of “Dear John”, Peters had the entire audience’s attention as they sang and swayed to the Taylor Swift song. Ending the show with “Blonde”, it was a perfect bookend to how the show started- a loud and raucous no-nonsense track about self-empowerment and brimming with confidence, something that Peters exudes with ease, making for a thoroughly enjoyable show.
Opening the show was Madeline the Person, whose autobiographical and relatable songs made for a great warm-up act. Songs like “Why I Broke Up With You” and “MEAN!” caught the crowd’s attention as both had much exposure online, especially the latter via TikTok. The 21-year-old’s set was predominantly mellow and included her take on “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, originally done by Aretha Franklin. During a moment in between songs, Madeline the Person showed off her shirt that was emblazoned with “I Love Frogs”, that elicited laughter amongst the crowd. The moment demonstrated that Madeline the Person has a charisma that enables her to connect with the audience both through her music and through her relatable personality, a combination that will enable a bright future ahead of her.
