Hotly-tipped London band Dry Cleaning kicked off their fall tour a few days ago and stopped by The Chapel in San Francisco, CA for a sold-out show. Their debut album, ‘New Long Leg’ garnered critical praise upon its release in April 2021 and is highlighted by the song, “Scratchcard Laynard”. The stage lighting was set with minimal lighting to fit the mood of the songs, mostly alternating between various tones of blue and red. Starting off the set with “Leafy”, the audience was immediately hooked in with some head-bobs and swaying and continued into “Unsmart Lady”. The band kept the chatter to a minimum as lead singer, Florence Shaw took time after “Strong Feelings” to say hello to the audience and acknowledging them sporadically as the band would retune their instruments. They performed the recently released singles, “Don’t Press Me”, “Gary Ashby” and “Driver’s Story” from their forthcoming sophomore LP, ‘Stumpwork‘ which was well received. Wrapping up the set with “Scratchcard Laynard” and “Conversation” for the encore, Dry Cleaning succeeded in taking the audience for a thrilling ride away from what may have been a “normal” Tuesday night.
