Indie-rock sensation Dayglow, also known as Sloan Struble, has steadily churned out new music over the course of the last 3-4 years and is on the cusp of releasing his third studio album People in Motion on October 7. Making a big impression with his debut album in 2018, Fuzzybrain, Dayglow grew his fanbase pretty quickly, anchored by the single “Can I Call You Tonight” which went platinum in 2020, charting #2 on both US Alternative and Triple A radio. Recently, Dayglow has been getting inspiration from 80s musicians like Paul Simon, and 80s-inspired band LCD Soundsystem as a reference point to create what he deems a dance record. Struble stated, “I think people will definitely hear LCD Soundsystem in the record which isn’t an 80s artist but like 80s influenced. So I’m influenced by that so it’s kind of like a layer of synth-pop that’s like new wave-ish.” Writing about his own personal experiences, Struble captures the highs and lows he’s gone through, from the highs of having recently married his college sweetheart and the feelings of salvation, the thing that gives all his work meaning in “Like She Does” to obstacles of his own and chosen to stand atop them in “Someone Else”. Dayglow will hit the road this fall in support of the album for a North American tour that kicks off in Mexico City.
Dayglow spoke with B-Sides host Pete Mar at Outside Lands about the upcoming album, using new technology, and the inspirations behind the work.
