VIDEO: INTERVIEW – renforshort Says Topic of Suicide Sparked Character Of ‘Amelia’ on Debut Album

The highly anticipated debut album ‘dear amelia’ from renforshort is slated to be released July 8th via Interscope Records and features the recently released “Julian, king of manhattan”. Of the song, the 20-year-old artist says it was her admiration for The Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas that inspired the track. “I wanted it to sound “Strokes-y,” she stated, “I wanted to write a song as if Julian Casablancas was my friend.” renforshort describes ‘dear Amelia’ as an elaborate sonic world around her detailed exploration of mental health that tackles raw accounts of depression and disassociation, anxiety and self-erasure. Born and raised in Toronto, renforshort was influenced by a wide range of artists from Nirvana to Amy Winehouse and even NWA, learning how to sing and write songs. A near-lifelong musician who plays guitar, piano, and drums, renforshort started touring before she graduated high school, honing her craft with countless performances in local bars in between dropping original tunes online. She’s released two EPs, thus far, including ‘teenage angst’ in 2020 and followed it up a year later with ‘off saint dominique’. renforshort will play a handful of dates in Australia in July, including Splendour In The Grass and will kick off her North American headlining tour in September in her hometown of Toronto.
