The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival returned to “the farm” in Manchester, TN with overwhelming enthusiasm spearheaded by a truly diverse lineup. The mix of performers that ranged from Tool and Stevie Nicks to J.Cole and Illenium along with Still Woozy, CHVRCHES, Wallows and The War on Drugs gave music fans a full range of familiar and new artists to check out. As was the norm, the weather was very warm with temps ranging from the upper 90s for most of the event that included a brief bout of wet weather on Friday. Otherwise, the vibes were friendly and free as Bonaroovians were more than happy to be back together at the four-day festival.
The big highlights from the event included a slew of promising emerging acts including Moore Kismet, whose set was energetic and engaging, while Isaiah Rashad seemed to have an endless breath to spit out the rhymes that he did during his set. Familiar festival favorites Dayglow, Bleachers and The Regrettes put on fun, solid sets that had a strong fanbase that was more than willing to mosh, sing along and dance on command. First-time Bonnaroo performers DE’WAYNE, flipturn and slowthai played sets that were polished, yet at times unpredictable and filled with moments of energy and sing-alongs. Surprise performers, The Aces (a last minute fill-in when Protoje had to drop out unexpectedly) have become seasoned festival performers as they knocked out a great set to open the main stage. Although this was only the second U.S. festival performance for Benee, she executed a flawless set that was engaging and fun.
