VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Rebecca Black Moves Forward Admist Reckoning Of Online Bullying, Taking Risks In New Music

With the recent release of her song “Read My Mind,” which she teamed up with Slayyyter on, Rebecca Black continues to push the envelope and explore new sounds. The edgy, digital dream-punk track is miles away from her introduction to the world when she was a 13-year-old singing “Friday”. About the collaboration, Black stated, “Slayyyter has been one of my favorite artists over the past few years and I loved every second of making this song with her!!! After perfecting this song over the course of a year, its magic, its fantastical and everything I’d hoped for to kick off this new era. Stan! Glam rage is here!” The track follows-up her six-track hyperpop-infused EP, ‘Rebecca Black Was Here’ that she released in 2021. The new material garnered positive reviews for its fresh sonic direction that’s complemented by Black’s strong vocals, notable in tracks like “NGL,” “Girlfriend” and the ballad “Worth It For the Feeling”. “I’ve always been inspired by artists who are not afraid to put themselves into new places because they have something still to learn and still to explore and a part of themselves and what they want to say,” Black stated, “artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani and a lot of her choices, Robyn. Those are people who’ve I’ve just been really inspired by their ethos and the way they approach their work.”

B-Sides caught up with Rebecca Black to talk about her musical journey, how the recent shift in society regarding online bullying has offered some peace to allow her to move on, upcoming new music and more.
