With so much new music coming out every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to first. Every week, we highlight some of our favorite tracks to kick off your weekend. 1. Pale Waves – “YOU DONT OWN ME”
English rock band Pale Waves has been making waves in the music scene for some time now. “YOU DONT OWN ME” is the fourth single from their upcoming sophomore album “Who Am I?”, which is poised to release February 12th. Frontwoman Heather Baron Gracie really shines on this track with gritty vocals and cutting feminist lyrics.
2. Chase Atlantic – “SLIDE”
Coming fresh off their album announcement on Wednesday, Australian alternative R&B trio Chase Atlantic have released their new track “SLIDE”. The song features dreamy hip hop production and the smooth vocals we’ve come to expect from the group.
3. LØLØ – “lonely & pathetic”
Toronto-born artist LØLØ makes pop music that isn’t dumbed down. Her new single “lonely & pathetic” leans into a 2000s pop-rock aesthetic that is reminiscent of Avril Lavigne and other alt pop princesses of the time. This track features a wonderfully indulgent hook that simply makes it fun to listen to.
4. Blu DeTiger – “Vintage”
Blu DeTiger first came into the mainstream spotlight with her song “Figure it Out” which blew up on TikTok in 2020. But with every track she’s put out, she reveals that she is more than that initial fame, and “Vintage” only continues that trend. Her bass playing is beyond funky, adding a unique layer to the pop landscape of the song, and her lyrics comparing her new beau to a fashion accessory feels fun without being apathetic.
5. benny blanco, Marshmello, Vance Joy – “You”
When we saw this superstar collaboration, we knew we were in for a treat. Vance Joy’s soulful vocals pair wonderfully with benny blanco and Marshmello’s masterful production. The video to accompany this sweet song is just as joyful as the music sounds.
6.Julia Stone – “We All Have” ft. Matt Berniger
Australian singer-songwriter Julia Stone released the new single “We All Have” with the National’s Matt Berniger. The track was co-produced by St. Vincent, and her skills truly shine through on this track. When these powerhouses of indie talent coming together, its easy to hear their respective brilliance shine through in each element of the track.
7. FKA Twigs – “Don’t Judge Me” ft. Headie One, Fred again..
The collaboration between British producers Headie One and Fred again.. really lets FKA Twigs talent shine. Twigs’ new projects will hopefully continue to utilize her creative and musical genius to reflect on her own strength as they do in this track.
8. JPEGMAFIA – “FIX URSELF!”
Baltimore rapper JPEGMAFIA has ushered in a new wave of experimental rap that is filled with energy. He has just announced that he will be releasing a second EP this year with the release of “FIX URSELF!”. This new track is more soulful and melodic than his other discography, and is a gorgeously produced love song. We look forward to seeing a more sensitive side of him in the future.
9. PARTYNEXTDOOR – “Let’s Get Married”
Canadian singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer Jahron Anthony Brathwaite has been releasing music under the name PARTYNEXTDOOR since 2013. His vocals on this new track “Let’s Get Married” are incredibly compelling as he tells the story of a lover crazy enough to ask someone they’ve just met.
10. almost monday – “Live Forever”
The indie pop trio almost monday’s new single “Live Forever” debuted on tastemaker Zane Lowe’s show on Apple Music this weekend. The song has an uplifting message of living in the moment and not taking life for granted. A message all of us are ready for as we head further into 2021.
