With so much new music coming out every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to first. Every week, we highlight some of our favorite tracks to kick off your weekend. 1. Good Boy Daisy – “Never Learn” ft. The Wrecks
Good Boy Daisy is comprised of identical twin sisters Hallie and Dylinn Mayes, whose bond and chemistry come to life through their music. Their characteristic catchy pop hooks are given an edge with alt-rock riffs and heavy rock influences. ‘Never Learn’ is the second single from the duo featuring Los Angeles based indie-rockers The Wrecks, and highlights the unique sound they are cultivating.
2. Silk City – “New Love” ft. Ellie Goulding
Silk City is a collaboration between legendary producers/musicians Diplo and Mark Ronson. Their new track ‘New Love’ features pop darling Ellie Goulding. It is the duos first release since 2018, and their talent shines through in the flawless production of the dance anthem.
3. Tash Sultana – “Sweet & Dandy”
Tash Sultana is a force to be reckoned with. The singer and multi-instrumentalist crafts luscious loop tracks with a precision and intuitiveness that is not easy to come by. ‘Sweet & Dandy’ is a cut from their upcoming album Terra Firma, which is set to release February 19. Sultana’s smooth vocals and rich soundscape are definitely worth a listen.
4. glaive, ericdoa – “cloak n dagger”
ericdoa and glaive’s new track might be appropriately classified as ‘hyper pop’, an emerging movement blending hip-hip, emo, alternative, and pop conventions to create a unique youthful sound. The two are definitely youthful, considering the track was released on glaive’s, AKA Ash Guiterrez, 16th birthday. The song demonstrates their burgeoning talent, in all of its angst, exaltation, and catharsis.
5. Birdy – “Surrender”
Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Birdy was projected into the mainstream when her cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ was featured on the Fault in Our Stars soundtrack in 2014, and has continued to write soft, heartbreaking melodies since. ‘Surrender’ is the first single lifted from her highly anticipated fourth studio album ‘Young Heart’ which is due to come out in April 2021.
6. KALI – “Lucy”
16 year old singer-songwriter Kali Flanagans song ‘Lucy’ is indie pop gold. It features bubbly guitars, quirky synths, and lovestruck lyrics that remind us of the thrill of teenage love. The song only builds anticipation for her debut EP which is set to come out May 7th.
7. CLOVES – “Sicko”
‘Sicko’ dives into the panic, tension, and hyperawareness that is characteristic of social anxiety. CLOVES doesn’t shy away from talking about her struggles with mental health, and uses her music to work through the complicated, intense things going on in her mind. The new track pays homage to Suzanne Vega’s ‘Tom’s Diner’ in its melody with a fresh eye and sharp lyricism.
8. Years & Years – “It’s a Sin”
British synth-pop trio Years & Years released their cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘It’s a Sin’. The song will serve as the title track for the new British Drama series by the same name, which focuses on the lives of several gay teenagers living through the AIDS crisis in the 80s. The song is definitely cinematic, with crisp vocals, and a lonely piano to accompany the emotional lyrics.
9. Smokepurpp x Wuki – “Birdz”
The new high energy collaboration between Smokepurpp & Wuki would surely be a festival banger under different circumstances. Nonetheless, the boisterous, hard trap anthem is sure to elevate your energy upon listening.
10. Royal Blood – “Typhoons”
English rock duo Royal Blood announced their new album by dropping its title track ‘Typhoons’. The album will be a follow up to their highly successful 2017 LP How Did We Get So Dark? The new song is fresh, electric, and full of swagger.
