Los Angeles based producer, DJ, and fashion designer LP Giobbi (née Leah Chisholm) has been building up a reputation as a strong and entertaining live performer. The track “Amber Rose,” has become an anthem for its combination of lyrics on female empowerment and dance rhythms. Trained in jazz piano at UC Berkeley, LP Giobbi was recruited by the electronic project, LEX, her first exposure to working with synthesizers and fast-tracked her to becoming a pro with various electronic production software tools. Having shared a stage with artists ranging from Gallant (providing support for Billboard’s Next Big Sound showcase) to Madame Gandhi (playing synth bass and DJing), it was her performance at SnowGlobe 2016 with Sofi Tukker in attendance that would elevate her career. The electronic duo invited her to tour with them and in 2018, they launched their own record label called Animal Talk, which she describes as, “a collective of artists to support other artists.”
B-Sides spoke with LP Giobbi during her recent performance at Snowglobe 2018 to talk about her performance, her experience transitioning to electronic music, Animal Talk and more. Check out the interview:
