After a set of strong releases throughout 2018, Billie Eilish is on the verge of a breakout once her debut album is released early 2019. The seventeen-year-old Los Angeles native has released a series of bonafide hits in the last year and a half from “you should see me in a crown” to the more recent “when the party’s over”. Performing in the Bay Area for the third time in a year, Eilish played the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA, the first night of her sold-out ‘1 by 1’ tour. The raucous crowd filled with her peers who predominantly ranged in age from 14-20, jumped, sang and of course, recorded video on their phones throughout the entire set that was just over an hour. Accompanied by her brother, Finneas O’Connell, who also opened for her, Eilish was energetic and lit up the stage as she commanded the crowd effortlessly throughout the journey of bangers like her aforementioned hits, especially when asking the crowd to jump and dance along with her during . Quieter moments were still recorded on their phones, but the audience was singing along so loudly that they could’ve been Eilish’s back-up singers during “Ocean Eyes” “idontwannabeyouanymore” and “Bellyache”. Another highlight was her tribute to XXXTENTACION, “6.18.18”, where Eilish sat at the keyboard alone on stage singing about her friend who had passed, before ending with a huge sing-a-long in her song “Copycat”.
