SUR is the brainchild of musician/producer Zack Arnett, who also adds to his credentials visual artist, poet, medicinal farmer and apothecarian. Arnett is a lifelong musician and artist who was influenced by a wide range of sounds from the classic rock that his father exposed him to at a young age to underground hip hop and even Rage Against The Machine. Frustrated by the confines of Los Angeles, Arnett built a makeshift studio in the back of an RV and set out on a journey through the desert, national parks and Big Sur. The songs that that were born during that period would eventually be completed solely by Arnett, who played all the instruments and produced the debut EP Savage Beast.
SUR debuted at SXSW 2018 and tracks like “Lean Back” and “Stix + Stones” have picked up traction online and both of which have been already been synched for various television shows and brand campaigns. With a full-length slated for release late 2018, SUR is an artist to keep ON-RADAR.
Arnett took a moment during Lightning in a Bottle to talk about playing the festival, creating new music and more. Check out the interview:
