As soon as she burst onto the scene, Grace Mitchell wow’d audiences and critics with a variety of music styles and sounds. “We’re always trying to innovate and make pop music sound fresh,” she stated. “It’s never standard or formulaic. It’s experimental, and I’m telling stories.” The Oregon native worked with Richard Swift, known from his work with indie rock band, The Shins, as well as a member of The Arcs, which features the guitarist and vocalist of the Black Keys, Dan Auerbach. Living in the same neighborhood as Swift, Mitchell got to work with him on her early demos, which would ultimately help her land a deal with Republic Records. Mitchell also spent time working with Mark Foster of Foster The People in 2014, who helped her produce her EP, Race Day. “With this EP, I’d like for people to be able to relate to the music in a direct way or even on a more subconscious manner,” she stated. Toward the end of 2017, Mitchell parted ways with Republic and has since gone independent, deciding to forge on her own and apply her experience in the industry towards a more consistent sound and new material.
