Norwegian producer/DJ Matoma released his debut album Hakuna Matoma in late 2015, but new tracks continued to be added to it through 2016 via its online version. The music of Matoma is has a strong foundation in the tropical house sound but with hip-hop sensibilities and influences, as evident with his remix of “Old Thing Back” by The Notorious BIG ft. Ja Rule. Subsequent tracks released garnered numerous plays on various streaming sites and the release of his debut album, which would become an evolving and “living” album, as Matoma would add new tracks to its online version.
Matoma spoke with B-Sides On-Air host, Pete Mar, during his San Francisco tour stop to talk about the process of making Hakuna Matoma, the influence of his classical piano training and more. Check out the interview:
