The inspiration and influences of the debut album by Corbu, titled Crayon Soul, was pulled from the band’s collective subconscious and inspired by animated sci-fi like Fantastic Planet, Interstella 5555 and Adventure Time. Main songwriter, Jonathan Graves stated, “When we wrote the story for the album, a whole universe opened up for us. We referenced it constantly while finishing the songs and mixing them…and each piece of artwork we made is a snapshot from the ‘movie’ of Crayon Soul.” The band recently toured with Bloc Party and their first festival shows were well received during Austin City Limits 2016.
Corbu members Todd Hoellerman (drums, keyboards), Amanda Scott (synths, percussion) and Jonathan Graves (frontman/singer) spoke with B-Sides On-Air during the first weekend of Austin City Limits 2016 about Crayon Soul, songwriting and more. Check out the interview:
