VIDEO: INTERVIEW – Run River North Nearly Break Up, Channel Emotions Into New Album

SoCal-based band Run River North nearly broke up after touring in support of their eponymous debut album that was released in 2013. The inter-band disputes were referenced in a post by the band online and although the intense disagreements could’ve forced them to disband, it led the six-member band to channel their emotions into creating their follow-up, Drinking From A Salt Pond, out now via Nettwerk Records. A contrast to their acoustic-driven debut, Drinking From A Salt Pond showcases a darker, heavier tone while retaining the band’s multi-vocal harmonies and catchy hooks. “The first album was about my view of family, home and the world and the rest of the band responding to these stories,” says frontman Alex Hwang. “This album is everyone’s individual responses to our collective self-reflection – with each member speaking through their respective instruments to express the relationships within the band rather than my folk stories wrapped in harmonies and swells.”

Run River North spoke with B-Sides On-Air during their San Francisco tour stop to talk about their new album, provide some insight into how they over came their differences and more.
