UK artist Oscar Scheller grew up with musician parents and started playing piano at the age of six. The 23-year-old eventually learned about hip-hop and the UK garage scene through his sister and would eventually start making his own music. Known artistically as Oscar, he describes his music as gangsta melancholy and makes heavy use of snippets of sampled breakbeats, broken off from 90’s East Coast rap records. Hailing from North West London, the British singer-songwriter, released the EP Beautiful Words and toured through most of 2015, playing select U.S. dates including CMJ and also embarked on a European tour, where he played festivals in Germany, England, and Netherlands.
Oscar recently spoke with B-Sides On-Air during his San Francisco debut at Popscene night and spoke about growing up with the varying influences, his debut album and more.
