Earlier this month we introduced Lil Dicky as an on the radar artist and now we got to cover his sold out show in Boulder, Colorado. Dicky decided to bring Alex Wiley along for the tour, a very talented emcee from Chicago. The show was on October 15, 2015 at the Fox Theater and it had no openers, leaving just Wiley and Lil Dicky with a Showtime of 9:00 PM. The Fox theater is a rather small venue so it was packed pretty well, but the line for the door never got too bad.
Alex Wiley started the night off with a set featuring songs from both of his latest projects, One Singular Flame Emoji and Village Party. One of the best crowd reactions came from the song “Vibration” however, it was clear that most of the crowd was there for Lil Dicky. Other notable songs Wiley played were “Forever”, “Spaceship 2”, and “Heavens Gate”. His set lasted a little over 20 minutes and he proved to be a solid opener for Lil Dicky and kept his set short so the crowd didn’t lose interest in the show.
After a short intermission and multiple crowd chants of ” we want dick”, Lil Dicky hit the stage at about 10:00 PM. Dicky started his set with his hit single ” Professional Rapper”, which the crowd went crazy for. Shortly after his first couple songs, Dicky announced why the tour was called the looking for love tour. He continued to explain that it is part rap show and part game show where he will choose female participants to come up to the stage and compete for his heart. Dicky then proceeded with a slideshow of the rules for the game which included a list, starting with the usual rules like “be at least 18 years of age or older” and descending into a number of funny and more obscure rules such as ” have a pleasant resting face” or “the ability to debate organized religion”. The first contestant chosen was given the task of drawing a portrait of Lil Dicky on stage while he performed some more hits like ” Personality” and “White Crime”. The next two contestants both endured similar challenges such as a miss America pageant questionnaire and a first date reenactment.reenactment. Throughout the game show Dicky would continue his concert performing other notable songs from his debut album Professional Rapper. Some of the other songs Dicky played were “Molly”, “$ave Dat Money”, and the outrageous antics of “Pillow Talking”. For a final decision between the three girls, Dicky invited them all back onto the stage for the final challenge which was to slap Lil Dicky in the face. After picking the feistiest slapper, Dicky dropped his huge hit single ” Lemme Freak” and continued to serenade and strip dance for the lucky winner of the looking for Love Tour.
This show was by far unlike any other show i have ever been too. At one point during the night Lil Dicky even mentions, ” You guys are probably thinking is this even a rap show anymore?” It was extremely entertaining and the parts of it that did have his songs being performed were on point and fluid. The crowd had a great response the entire night and of course managed to draw Dicky back on to the stage for an encore where he performed the wildly popular ” Ex-Boyfriend”, which happens to be the first song he ever recorded.. Dicky is already at stardom status and he has only been giving rap his attention for the last two years. It was a great show and its clear that Dicky not only has entertaining content but can also entertain a live crowd as well. Catch the rest of the tour dates as they continue on the second half of the looking for love tour.
