Remember LCD Soundsystem’s farewell show and how magical it was? Remember how the Madison Square Garden-set send off sold out in minutes? And how, protesting scalpers, they booked four shows at Terminal 5 leading up to the final show (these all also sold out very quickly)? Remember how even if you could have gotten those tickets into the shopping cart, you were too broke to pay for them, so you bitterly watched the Youtube livestream of it in your dorm room?
What, Just me?
Well, if you do still think about it, you can probably still watch it on Youtube, or buy the DVD, or the live album. And, in case you’re getting a head start on Christmas shopping for yours truly, the latter comes in expensive- 5x-LP-vinyl-box-set edition (Ahem, Mom).
If you’ve been avoiding the internet for the past couple days this might seem like it’s coming out of nowhere, however, it appears the rumor mill has begun churning again. Last week, Consequence of Sound reported that the band would reunite to play a few festival dates in 2016. After which, Kris Petersen, who co-owns DFA records along with James Murphy himself, took to Twitter to deny the rumors. After that however, Billboard reported that the band is “definitely reuniting” in 2016 according to word from their well-placed source.
Will they actually reunite? Yes? No? Honestly, I don’t know. But that won’t stop us from talking about which songs of theirs are the best. Okay here we go:
5. I Can Change
Off of 2010’s This Is Happening, ‘I Can Change’ is a desperate, pleading love song, and one of the most brutally honest songs in LCD’s catalogue.
4. Someone Great
There are a few theories out there as to what this song is about, but I think it better that it is left ambiguous. It’s a song about loss, and it hits pretty hard.
3. Dance Yrself Clean
No Explanation needed. Play this song as loud as you can and wait ‘til about the halfway point and tell me it shouldn’t have made this list.
2. New York I Love You, But You’re Bringing Me Down
I’ll be the first to admit that this song is probably higher than it has any right being, but it’s my list and I love it. An all-too-true ode to NYC. There are a lot of songs written about New York, but this is one of the few that captures just how non-perfect it is.
1. All My Friends
Did you expect it to be anything else? ‘All My Friends’ is not only the best LCD Soundsystem song, it’s probably one of the greatest songs of the last 10 years.
