This weekend marks the 15 years of MusicFest NW and it’s return to the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and we couldn’t be more excited. The three day, two stage, twenty-two artist festival will be headlined by Foster the People, Beirut, and Modest Mouse. Hours of amazing music are only the beginning of all that you can expect from this amazing weekend. Here’s some of the stuff we’re looking forward to checking out this weekend:
The Music
Well c’mon, this one goes without saying. The MusicFestNW lineup this year is absolutely stacked. As previously mentioned, the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday headliners are Foster the People, Beirut, and Modest Mouse. MFNW 2015 is also boasting performances by Misterwives, Belle and Sebastian, The Tallest Man On Earth, Danny Brown, Battles, Title Fight, and many more.
More Music
In addition to the artists performing this weekend on the waterfront, there will be a series of evening shows around town hosted by MusicFest NW. MFNW Nights kicked off last night with shows featuring The Helio Sequence, Nick Waterhouse, and Shlohmo, and will continue throughout the weekend. If you have the chance, check out Magic Sword this Saturday night at the Star Theater. The sci-fi, synthwave duo put on a performance you absolutely need to see.
Non-Music
Now, music is only one part of the weekend. MFNW is an experience, and what kind of experience would that be without a bevy of extra activities. For instance, Eleven PDX will be featuring a live art tent where you can watch local artists in action. Also be sure to grab a few pals and snag a couple snaps over at the Smilebooth photo booth. Additionally, Rudy’s Barbershop will be setting up shop all weekend doling out free haircuts all weekend long.
Eat Stuff Drink Stuff
If you’ve been to any festival before, you know that the food situation isn’t always ideal. Take Warped Tour for instance; a parade of overpriced carnival food that requires waiting in line for an hour to receive. This is where MFNW shines, by rolling through a train of local food carts to serve up mushroom dumplings and gourmet sliders to festival patrons. Also check out the Jack Daniels and Penner-Ash set-ups. They will be around all weekend offering up whiskey and fine wine to all of-age attendees, a feature that was previously only available to VIPs.
The City
Hey if you’re going to be in Portland all weekend, be sure to venture outside the waterfront and check out all of what our city has to offer. Go get some coffee, Portland has some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable baristas in the country, they can keep you wired for days. Kick back after a day of music at any number of local brewpubs, we have more craft beer than we know what to do with. Maybe wait in line way too long for Voodoo donuts, people do it all the time. Whatever you decide to do this weekend, be safe and have fun.
