After stumbling early into a venue with the intentions of catching a well known headliner later in the night, my ears nearly fell off from excitement after discovering the allure set by Mija. Dropping tunes by SLANDER & NGHTMRE alongside POINT POINT’s “Life in Grey” and her own IDs, the young DJ and producer proves she can hustle and flow. Native to Arizona and part of the OWSLA label, the whiskey loving gal has been hitting everyone by surprise.
Named one of the top fifteen female DJS by Billboard, the young hip chick is someone you need to check out.
With a history in the rave scene, Mija began working with electronic music in Phoenix as a promoter throwing parties back in the late 00’s. Thats where she met Skrillex before he was “Skrillex” and it wasn’t until Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival last year that they reunited. During an surprise back to back set in the early hours of the morning, the alien took Mija under his wing.
As a new asset to the OWSLA label, Mija was featured in the label’s “Eggnog” Christmas Compilation. Her variety during sets is what places her above the rest. Her creativity allows her to mix all the genres without overwhelming the audience. She drops sets featuring house, trap, deep house and dubstep tunes while holding a dark edge impersonating the future of OWSLA.
Mija has been roaming LA clubs for a while and has started touring around the US. Having made appearances in Burning Man, Tomorowworld, and Spring Weekend, she’ll continue making stops at major festivals this summer including HARD summer, Sunset Music Festival and Shambhala.
Her not so new song with Ghastly featuring Lil Jon “Crank it”, recently launched its visual counterpart. The music video directed by Nick Roney, shows just how weird Mija is not scared get. Check out the video here and see what we mean by aqua hair and doesn’t care.
