Today would have been the fiftieth birthday of rapper Adam Yauch, better known as MCA. We’re taking this opportunity to look back at the legendary group he was a part of. The Beastie Boys have left an indelible mark on music as a whole. From every corner of the musical spectrum a piece of their sound can be heard. They’ve influenced the stylings of artists from every genre including Rage Against The Machine, Incubus, and Sublime as well as newbies like Ke$ha, and Iggy Azalea.
MCA passed away in 2012 too soon at the age of 47. The Boys called it quits soon after his death, leaving an impressive legacy in their wake. A massive legion of fans remain loyal, and scores have artists have done tribute to the group with covers. Blondie, P. Diddy, and Jay-Z have paid tribute to the guys through covering their music. Check out Coldplay’s take on “Fight For Your Right (To Party)” Below.
With three Grammys and four number one albums under their belt these three jewish kids will always be remembered for their immense talent and infectious energy. MCA’s passing was a true musical tragedy from which the industry still hasn’t fully recovered. And yet, we should remember them as they were, a bad ass rap group that showed the world how hip-hop and rock could meld together.
Below is the seventh track from their 1998 album Hello Nasty.
