ALBUM REVIEW: Turn Blue by The Black Keys

The Black Keys - Turn BlueThe Black Keys have just releaed their 8th nstudio album Turn Blue. This latest effort showcases a different side to the band’s sound, gliding through with a a hazy, blues-infused vibe that dominates throughout the album. The Black Keys are a band that is constantly pushing themselves from album to album, always challenging themselves to bring a new sound and new vibe to their work and “Turn Blue” is no exception. This is also the band’s second time working with producer Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton.

The majority of the album shies away from staple Black Keys elements like big hooks and Carney’s stomping drums. Somber and eclectic, opening track “Weight of Love” sets the tone for a introspective journey through sound and emotion that flows through the rest of the album. The lyrical content wades through a sea of pain and regret, ranging from bittersweet remorse to seething rage. Songs like “Fever” and “10 Lovers” coast along on with 70’s-influenced pop melodies with dark lyrics adding an eerie vibe while title track “Turn Blue” and “In Time” ease into a funky, blues rhythm that boils and ebs in a pool of melancholy.

The Black Keys never fail to deliver something fresh and new and thats is the key to their longevity in the rock scene. “Turn Blue” is now available for purchase on iTunes. The band will be touring for the better part of the summer so check them out at the dates listed below. You can find ticket links and more information at the band’s website.
