Rap-Pop sensation Iggy Azalea (moniker for Amethyst Kelly) has just released her debut studio album “The New Classic” which has landed on the US Billboard 200 Chart at number three, selling over 52,000 copies and solidifying her status as a bona fide starlet in the rap scene. When asked about the title of the album, Iggy simply said that it was a statement on the rap industry. “I represent a new style…it’s not me saying my stuff’s classic. It’s me saying I think hip hop’s evolving and the face of hip hop can be different…it can be me, it can be any colour from anywhere.”
That statement has never been truer as “The New Classic” holds its own and even outshines some of the best rap/hip-hop albums released by established artists. The majority of the songs pay homage to classic hip-hop but with a modern edge and aggressive energy that marks the songs with Iggy’s signature style. Debut single “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX will definitely be one of the staple summer jams of 2014. Club-ready jams like “F**k Love” and “New Bitch” bring the heat as Iggy drops some ferocious raps over a hard-hitting beat. “Walk the Line” and “Work” tell the story of Iggy’s struggle to make it in the rap world.
The album also features a plethora of star-studded collaborations , including “Change Your Life” with T.I. , “100” with Watch the Duck, “Black Widow” with Rita Ora and “Lady Patra” with Mavado.
The album is a solid debut effort from Iggy Azelea. “The New Classic” is now available for download via iTunes. Catch Iggy at these dates below and keep an eye on her website for updates and more tour announcements.
