Kongos, no not congos, is a four-piece band originating from South Africa. Consisting of members Johnny, Jesse, Dylan and Daniel Kongos, these four brothers have been all over the world. While they spent most of their childhood growing up in either London or South Africa, they’ve traveled all the way to Phoenix Arizona to record their music. And having come from Greek origins, It’s easy to understand how these guys have been inspired by many different cultures, making their music almost a completely universal sound.
Releasing their debut album “Lunatic” in 2012, the band received much acclaim in South Africa for their single “I’m Only Joking”, topping the charts all across the country. With the follow up track of “Come With Me Now” it was only a matter of time before the rest of the world jumped on the bandwagon for this band; which, after re-releasing their album in the US, people began to do. More and more people started watching them closely, and it wasn’t long before the band was signed to Epic Records in late January of 2014. Since then their music has been spreading like wildfire across the country, vastly increasing their fan-base. While radio-stations have been playing their tracks like crazy, the band has been touring across the US opening shows for acts such as Alice in Chains, Cage the Elephant and Seether. So what’s next for the band? Only time will tell but I must say I see a lot of potential in these brothers just waiting to burst out.
