Among the many famous musicians who have performed during the Superbowl halftime show, Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the newest to join the ranks last night. Despite the many people who doubted Bruno’s ability to entertain the wide range of people that were watching, he no doubt played and sang his heart out. Beginning with a choir of children singing his first hit song “Billionaire”, it quickly escalated into a nice drum solo before Bruno stood up and began singing “Locked Out of Heaven”. The Red Hot Chili Peppers eventually showed up on stage for a quick bit of their own hit “Give It Away” but were gone just as fast as they came on. So how did they compare to others artists who have played during halftime in the past?
Looking back to some of the first superbowl’s ever held back in the 60’s, we’ve definitely come a long way from highschool marching bands and baton twirlers but other legends who have taken on this challenge might be a bit more rememberable than Bruno was. Paul McCartney? Can you really beat a beatle? Beyonce? I’m sorry Bruno but a reunion between her and Destiny’s Child is the stuff dreams are made of. And honestly, it gets brought up every year, no on can forget what happened with Janet Jackson.
So did Bruno Mars do horribly? Absolutely not! He did his thing and rocked it. But will we remember it next year? Probably not. His performance was family friendly honest to goodness and that is great, there just was not enough to really make him stand out.
