English singer/songwriter Jake Bugg began his music career back in 2011. Bugg grew up with parents who both had musical backgrounds, and he began playing the guitar at age 12. In 2011 he was chosen by BBC to perform on their Introducing stage at the Glastonbury Festival. Shortly after he was signed to Mercury Records, and released his self-titled debut album on October 15th, 2012. The album charted at number one on the UK Album charts upon its release! Bugg’s music has a sound that mixes rock, blues, and a dash of punk together. He is influenced by artists/bands like Oasis, Johnny Cash, and The Beatles among countless others. His second full length album Shangri La, was released on November 18th, 2013. Bugg won Best New Act at the Q Awards this past year as well as performed on various talk shows including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Show with David Letterman, and Conan. Bugg’s hit single on the current album “What Doesn’t Kill You,” has a rock n’ roll vibe with its fast guitar and Bugg’s twangy vocals. The song is about surviving the hardships of life and uses violence in the streets as a metaphor. It is the perfect jam to listen to when you are down. Shangri La is currently available for streaming on iTunes and Spotify.
