It’s happened to all of us. A commercial starts airing and even though you may not even be paying attention, it has a song that is so catchy it just sticks in your head and you can’t shake it off. Some of these songs are annoying and you loathe having ever heard one word, but some are actually good. Some make you want to know more, hear the whole thing, and put it on repeat. “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors is one of those songs.
You may know it as the catchy tune from the Lowe’s commercial, the one where the family is moving into a new house. This song actually fits very well with the theme of the commercial, and aside from saying that moving into a new house and having the help of Lowe’s to do so will be the best day of your life, this song actually has a very great message. With lyrics that read “I had a dream so big and loud, I jumped so high I touched the cloud” the song sends a message of never giving up and looking at the positives in life.
With a whimsical beat and sound I can foresee this song being the new favorite to be played at weddings, graduations and any happy gathering. It has a certain tone that just makes you smile and feel good no matter what mood you’re in.
Alternative-rock band American Author was created by members Zachary Barnett, James Adam Shelley, Matt Sanchez, Dave Rublin in 2006, after all meeting at the Berklee College of Music. While many bands don’t ever go to school music, these guys obviously learned a few tricks on how to get listeners hooked. I wouldn’t stop with just this one song by these guys, their entire self titled debut album is packed with great hits.
