The 2013 installment of the Treasure Island Music Festival showcased many up-and-coming artists alongside headliners Atoms for Peace and Beck. As has been the case in previous years, the weather fluctuations dictated the crowd response. Warmer temperatures marked the first day with enthusiastic crowds for Disclosure and Major Lazer. However, as night began to fall, so did temperatures and the crowds started to dissipate. So much so, that the audience for Atoms for Peace began to dwindle mid-set and the supergroup was left performing their encore to a few thousand people. Thom Yorke commented on the weather throughout the set, stating, “we came to California to escape the British weather.”
The audience came better prepared for the second day and headliner Beck brought the crowd to its feet as he manuevered the set through his catalog of work. Highlights included a duet with Alexis Krauss for “Let’s Get Lost” as well as Beck’s rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”, accompanied by a moonwalk and all. The highly anticipated Haim performed earlier to a huge crowd for the smaller second stage. James Blake and STRFKR also impressed many throughout their sets, having garnered many new fans along the way.
