For the first time in the festival’s history, ACL was cancelled after heavy rains and flash flooding. The inaugural second weekend was put to a halt on its final day after Zilker Park received over eight inches of rain. But that didn’t stop the Live Music Capitol of the World from partying on. Twitter exploded with tweets of secret ACL shows popping up all over town. Sunday headliners Atoms For Peace performed at the Moody Theater for $10 and streamed the entire performance online. Lionel Richie played for private party of 50 in one lucky Austin homeowner’s living room. Infest, the former home of Antone’s, hosted Franz Ferdinand, UK band Noah and the Whale performed at Empire Control Room, and The Mowglis had a last-minute set at the homeless shelter downtown. While the rain or shine rule didn’t apply on the festival grounds, the city took advantage of a unanticipated situation and made due. C3 will issue weekend 2 ticket holders a refund one-third of the original ticket price. Unfortunately tickets purchased through third-party vendors will not be refunded. Rain or shine, the music will go on. Despite the cancellation, ACL 2013 proved a huge success. Let’s hope we have better luck with the weather next year! |
